Hydrological Study and Drainage System Design
Explore the comprehensive hydrological and geotechnical study conducted for a project in Abu Dhabi..
Location
Abu Dhabi
Overview
The project required a comprehensive hydrological and geotechnical study to support the safe and sustainable development of the school site. Located in a region where groundwater levels and subsurface conditions could impact construction, this project focused on understanding the site's unique geological and hydrological characteristics to provide solutions for long-term stability and drainage.
Scope of Work
The study encompassed several critical steps to assess subsurface conditions, groundwater behavior, and potential challenges for construction. Our team executed detailed geotechnical and hydrological investigations, including:
Borehole DrillingDrilled 10 boreholes across the site to analyze soil and rock layers and identify potential issues related to foundation stability.
Permeability and Pumping TestsConducted field tests to measure soil permeability and groundwater flow rates, providing essential data for groundwater control planning.
Groundwater MonitoringInstalled piezometers at key points to continuously monitor groundwater levels, enabling an accurate understanding of groundwater fluctuations and behavior over time.
Geophysical SurveysUtilized advanced geophysical techniques to map subsurface conditions and identify areas susceptible to groundwater influence.
Project Highlights
The primary goals of this investigation were to:
01Evaluate Subsurface ConditionsIdentify soil and rock properties that could impact foundation design and overall site stability.
02Analyze Groundwater BehaviorUnderstand groundwater dynamics, including seasonal changes and long-term trends, to mitigate potential flooding and seepage risks.
03Identify Geotechnical ChallengesAssess soil-bearing capacities, potential settlement issues, and subsurface stability to inform safe design solutions.
Outcome
Recommendations and Client Benefits
Based on our findings, we provided tailored recommendations for groundwater control and drainage system design. These solutions aim to effectively reduce groundwater levels and protect the site from future water-related issues, ensuring a safe, stable foundation for the Al Shamkha Future School's infrastructure.
This comprehensive study enabled informed decision-making for foundation and drainage system designs, mitigating risks associated with high groundwater levels and complex geotechnical conditions. By implementing our recommendations, the Al Shamkha Future School project is set up for long-term stability, safety, and durability.
