Super Arc Consultant LLC (SAC), based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, was appointed as the geotechnical specialist for the Life Style Hotel project, in Saudi Arabia. This prestigious development, situated on reclaimed soil on an artificial island in Yanbu City, comprises a five-story hotel without a basement.
As the geotechnical consultant, SAC was responsible for:
- Review and Analysis: Conducting a comprehensive review of geotechnical data and calculations to assess soil conditions and structural requirements.
- Geotechnical Design: Developing detailed design options for deep foundation elements, including piled raft and Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) systems, supported by precise calculations and drawings.
- Tender Documentation: Preparing specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and other tender documents to facilitate contractor selection for soil improvement and deep foundation works.
Key Findings and Engineering Solutions:
- The proposed piled raft and CMC systems were found to be optimal for the site conditions, with settlement values well within allowable limits according to Saudi Building Code (SBC) 303.
- The foundation design emphasized durability and compliance, incorporating advanced modeling techniques and rigorous testing protocols to ensure the structural integrity of the hotel on challenging reclaimed soil.
